Feature Story : BStrong Fitness + Health Space
Fitness Professionals Andrew Mong and Bernice Chee, 2 great friends who pursued their love for the Fitness Industry by setting up the brand new BStrong Fitness + Health Space at Jaya One, PJ share with FitnessIdeas some background information and the direction of the BStrong Centre.
FitnessIdeas: Hi Bernice, and Andrew. Let’s get started. What inspired BStrong?
Bernice: BStrong Fitness + Health Space was conceptualized by Andrew and I, who decided on a switch in career to pursue our love for the fitness industry. Coincidently both of us had weight issues in our early 20’s from a sedentary existence. Being young, life was all about partying until a turn of events brought about a change in our lifestyles. The both of us have since then had several years of participation in various sporting events, and have also been coaching people around us towards a fitter lifestyle.
FitnessIdeas: So you guys believe you have what it takes to make this a success?
Andrew: Yes definitely. Having been there, and knowing what it was like to be unfit, it’s easier for us to understand our clients, besides the genuine desire to want to reach out and help others who are in need of a little motivation and help in changing their lifestyle to be a fitter individual.
FitnessIdeas: We understand that the both of you guys are Certified Personal Trainers as well. Tell us more.
Bernice: Yes, that is correct. We decided that the first step to be fitness professionals was to obtain some theoretical knowledge via a recognized organization, which in this case, was the American Council on Exercise (ACE), from which we both successfully obtained our Personal Training certification. There are many certifications out there that we could have chosen to do, but only few are accredited by the NCCA.
Andrew: Also, the Fitness Industry stands behind accreditation, and the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) recommend that club owners only hire fitness professionals with certifications from agencies accredited through NCCA or an equivalent accrediting organization. So, now armed with both the theory and the years of practical know-how, our next move was to set up a training space where personal trainers can effectively train their clients. The result – is the BStrong Health + Fitness Space.
FitnessIdeas: Tell us, what can BStrong do for the general public?
Andrew: The team at BStrong employs a slightly different approach in how we conduct our personal training programs. We choose to incorporate fun dynamic warm ups in each of our sessions with our clients, and to include relevant strength training movements using other forms of fitness equipment. The idea is to break away from the standard old school PT sessions, and to keep things relevant to today’s individual needs.
Bernice: Other than Personal Training, BStrong also provides space for small group exercise classes. All the classes are packaged as progressive programs with a fixed duration, starting from Beginner to Advance levels. This will enable the student to grow with the instructor as they progress within the program, and yet have the option to complete a certain level of syllabus and to continue on later. The aim is to ensure a more effective learning session for the students.
In summary, we offer:
• DYNAMIC PERSONAL TRAINING packages to suit everyone.
• YOGA (HATHA and FUSION). *Special classes are available for pre and post natal clients as well.
• Self Defense (Target Hardening of individuals against assault)
• Total Wedding Fitness Program
FitnessIdeas: So where is BStrong headed from here?
Bernice: We’ve got a 3 prong plan, which is:
i) To design and promote fitness programs that are in line with the demands of today’s gym goers.
ii) To provide a modern fitness and health focused space for trainers to coach their clients towards a healthier lifestyle
iii) To form strategic alliances with the fitness and health industry experts, thus ensuring the quality and effectiveness of our programs.
